Costain Selects Business Collaborator as Enterprise Portal

Business Collaborator has been selected, over and above 28 competitive products, as the Enterprise Portal solution at the heart of Costain's new IT strategy, designed to support its IBP programme (Implementing Best Practice). After a major review of business processes, Costain recognised that there was a greater need to share information and for a more consistent approach to the business. Extremely functional and flexible, Business Collaborator presents a solution that can be specifically customised to meet Costain's specific Enterprise Portal needs and make the company's wealth of knowledge more easily accessible, both within the organisation and to external suppliers and contractors.

Business Collaborator was chosen after a stringent selection process involving sample costings and a weighted analysis of the tender documents.

John Bevan, Technical Director at Costain, said:

The final choice was made on the basis of 'best fit'. Business Collaborator best fulfilled our requirement for a complete solution combining an Enterprise Portal and document management capability with a project management facility. It also offered optimum support for Best Practice deployment, plus other key value added applications. In addition, Business Collaborator has a large AEC customer base and really understands the issues within the construction industry, reducing the learning curve.

Financial considerations also played a part in the selection process. Business Collaborator's transparent pricing was an initial attraction and the company was able to demonstrate low costs of ownership over both two and five years, together with low costs of support. The opportunity to generate licence revenue was an added attraction contributing to a significantly lower cost/risk assessment against competing vendors.
